Our NASEN award winning Teacher Book of the Year 2008. This super book actually teaches HOW to teach handwriting and looks at all the areas which need to be considered: seating, posture, tools, grips, left handers, and addresses the frequent difficulties that older pupils continue to experience with handwriting. Described by Sue Palmer, author of Toxic Childhood as “ a must for every Primary School Teacher”. Reviewed by the National Handwriting Association as “one of the best books on the subject”. Includes guidance on how to” Start Write”, how to assess handwriting difficulties and how to review progress. Photocopiable sheets included.
One parent of an eight year old boy using the Start Write Stay Right programme commented: “Adam is making great strides with our handwriting project. He is still enjoying it and keen to do it each day, which is an absolute wonder to me. He is usually a person with a very low tolerance level so the fact that he is still keen to do it means it must be REALLY good. It has been fascinating to watch his progress. I would like to say how easy I have found it to identify, via the exercises and assessment checklist, exactly which areas need attention. First of all getting the paper, pen and arm position right made a huge difference and he is now self-correcting on this. Now we are working on the finger control exercises, letter differentiation and common joins. I notice that he finds the directional control exercises particularly challenging, but again he is sticking with them and we are seeing an improvement. I asked him for a verdict on the programme and he said he likes it because "it is not just writing out lots of letters and words which is boring, but there are lots of different exercises which are fun to do".
