One of our award winning series "Stories for Special Children book is divided into two parts: the first half is a story, written and illustrated for young readers. The story describes a day in the life of Jack who has Asperger's Syndrome. This is a very diverse condition, and the book intends to cover commonly shared difficulties. Jack's days includes descriptions of his relationship with his teacher, and his love of dinosaurs and bones; his strongly held feelings and difficulties with maintaining friendships. The aim is to reassure young readers who may have Asperger's syndrome themselves, or to use with a group of children for PHSE to encourage understanding of others' difficulties and an awareness that we are all different.
The second half of the book is aimed at the adults who support children with Asperger's Syndrome or High Functioning Autism. It contains valuable information and suggested methods of supporting these children and enabling them to meet their potential.
